Verona is a little town that’s a perfect day trip from Venice or Milan. It is home to a stunning Roman arena and some Romeo and Juliet lore. As fun as day trips can be, they can be intimidating if you’re traveling gluten-free. But I’ve found that even the smallest towns in Italy can have incredible gluten-free options. It’s one of my favorite things about exploring Italy!
Verona happens to be home to one of my favorite gluten-free bakeries.
This is where you can eat gluten-free in Verona if you only have a day.
There are a few more options if you have more time. If you’re visiting Verona for the closing ceremonies of the Milano-Cortina Olympics, some of these locations may be pretty busy. Check on reservations so you don’t miss out.
I’ll note dedicated gluten-free or if they have a dedicated kitchen space so you know you can eat with confidence.
A Note about AIC
One thing you’ll see detonated is if a restaurant is AIC-approved. The Italian Celiac Association is truly incredible.
Not only do they provide excellent resources on their app. But, they also train and certify restaurants in best practices for serving celiacs. So, a restaurant that isn’t dedicated gluten-free but is certified by the AIC is your next best bet.
Typically, these restaurants have separate cooking areas and other measures to keep celiacs safe.
I don’t trust many restaurants, but these restaurants have practices that can keep you safe. Still, communicate your needs and decide what’s best for you. I’ve always had excellent experiences at AIC-certified restaurants.
Download the AIC app and sign up for a 2-week subscription for travelers, and you can have access to their map of restaurants.
Ristorante Pizzeria La Costa in Bra
I went to Verona on a day trip from Venice. I took snacks with me just in case finding lunch was difficult, but there was no reason for that.
On a day trip, you don’t need a lot of good options. A safe lunch plan is really all you need. Luckily, I found that!
Located on the corner of the Piazza Bra near the arena, the view from this restaurant can’t be beaten. Grab a seat outside and enjoy the view while you enjoy your lunch.
This AIC-certified restaurant makes its own gluten-free sourdough pizza crust, and it’s delicious. It was so delicious that I forgot to take a photo (oops!). I was hungry, and the plaza was so pretty I was distracted.
I know it’s a very touristy location for a restaurant, and that made me a bit skeptical. But I had no reason to be. It was terrific, and I felt very safe.
The pizza and the view make this one of my favorite places.
Ristorante Pizzeria La Costa in Bra is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to midnight. If there is an opera, it will be open later.
This is a perfect place to grab a gluten-free pastry and coffee for breakfast or a pizza later in the day.

Bacio Di Cioccolato
Bacio Di Cioccolata remains one of my favorite gluten-free bakeries. I’ve debated returning to Verona just to visit this bakery, and honestly, I might still do it one day.
This little bakery is not in the tourist center of the city. You’ll want to take a bus out to it. It’s a 20-minute bus ride from Piazza Bra. It’s worth all of the effort.
Everything in this bakery looked so good that I triple-checked the signage and the Find Me Gluten-Free reviews, convinced I’d walked into the wrong bakery. The owner didn’t speak much English, and my Italian is terrible (I’m working on it). Everything looked so good, but my friend and I were so skeptical. But everything checked out, and he agreed it was all “senza gluten.”
I left with a bag of cookies, cream puffs, and croissants. All of them were genuinely incredible.

The first cookie was so good that I waited about 30 minutes before eating anything else to be sure I didn’t react. In my experience, that’s a sign of an excellent bakery.
It was so good that I second-guessed everything I knew to be true. I still think about this bakery. It’s in the top five bakeries I’ve ever tried, and that’s saying something because I love trying a gluten-free bakery.
When you’re in Verona, run don’t walk to this incredible little bakery.
Grom
Grom is a dedicated gluten-free gelato chain you can find throughout Europe but they’re all over Italy.
The cones and gelatos are all gluten-free. So, it’s easy to find a snack if there’s a Grom in the area.
They have several dairy-free flavors as well. The cones are not dairy-free, though.
Since I was only on a day trip, I didn’t get to try all of the gluten-free options in Verona. There wasn’t enough time, and I ate so much from the bakery that I couldn’t get to another restaurant.
These restaurants are on my list when I get back to Verona.

Ristorante Flora
Ristorante Flora is a gluten-free, vegan restaurant in Verona. It is located just outside the city center.
The menu changes with seasons, so it’s not consistent. But they have a buffet where you pay based on weight. So, you pick what and how much you want and are charged accordingly. It’s a clever take on a buffet and an effort to prevent food waste.
They also have a set menu for dinner if that’s more your style.
I haven’t gotten to try it yet—next time.
Gusto Libero SenzaGlutine – Grocery Store
This dedicated gluten-free grocery store would be fun to check out. Although I’ve gotten used to seeing gluten-free grocery stores in most Italian cities, this one still blows my mind. I like to walk in and browse. It’s such an incredible feeling to walk into a store and know you can eat all the things!
Dolci Sogni Gluten Free
This is another gluten-free bakery in Verona. It’s much more convenient if you’re on a day trip. It’s only a 10-minute walk from Piazza Bra. It’s relatively new as of early 2025. So, I couldn’t try it when I went the first time. I’ll give it a try the next time I get to visit Verona. It looks incredible!
When you look at other restaurants, note that they aren’t in Verona proper. They are in neighboring cities. So, they could be good places to check out with more time in Verona.

Enjoy Eating Gluten-Free Verona
Verona is a perfect day trip, especially if you’re gluten-free. You can see some cool sites and get to try incredible gluten-free food. Even if you go to Verona to see the arena and grab some goodies from Bacio Di Cioccolato, it would 100% be worth the trip.
